Located just a few hundred yards from the beach, the Nautilus House is an architectural marvel designed by nationally known New Orleans architect, Loyd Vogt.  It is built around a unique pool so that most rooms have a view of the beauty of the pool and patio.  The house is fashioned after the style of a Caribbean cottage with a fantastic tower suite and observatory crowning the structure.  From the sundeck/observatory, visitors can see the boats leave the harbor in the morning, make their way through the pass to the Gulf where they pause to catch their bait before sailing away for a day of fishing.  The view from the observatory is panoramic encompassing the entire harbor area of the city of Destin.

The broad front porch is connected to the main living area by three large double French doors which bring the light and beauty of the outside into the living room, dining room and kitchen.  This area with 12 foot ceilings, fans and hardwood floors has more than a dozen large windows which make it a bright, cheerful, tropical space.  The kitchen and dining room are separated by a granite-covered counter and bar that overlook the pool.  A queen sized sleeper sofa in the living room can accommodate an additional two guests.

A large windowed hallway leads past a half bath to the two downstairs bedrooms.  The Ocean bedroom with its queen size bed overlooks the pool area.  With its private bath, it can be used as an alternate master suite.
The sailing bedroom is set up with twin beds.  It also has a private bathroom and looks out into the palm and oleander-filled back yard of the house.  Each bedroom has a private entrance from the rear of the house with a small porch.

Off the central hallway are the stairs that lead to the tower suite.  The master bedroom has windows facing in all directions and opens onto a shuttered porch that looks out over the pool, across Lake Caroline to the Gulf and East Pass.  The master bathroom has a Jacuzzi tub and separate shower.  The tower configuration of the master suite gives total privacy from the main living area of the house.

From the porch off the master bedroom, steps lead up to the crown jewel of the Nautilus House, the observatory/sundeck. Panoramic views from the observatory allow visitors to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning while watching the boats on the harbor come to life as the seagulls, ducks, and pigeons wait to be fed across the street on the banks of Lake Caroline. Sunshine and pleasant breezes make the observatory a desirable location for relaxation throughout the day. As evening approaches, the observatory is a most special place to unwind and watch the glory of the sunset across East Pass and the Gulf.
